Jocelyn Joseph, LMHC
founder. therapist. space-maker for radical healing.
Hi, I’m Jocelyn (she/her), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and the founder of Orenda Psychotherapy. I’m a human, educator, and space-holder — deeply committed to walking alongside high-functioning, high-achieving women of color who are tired of performing strength and ready to heal in softer, more liberating ways.
My practice was born from what I didn’t see growing up: therapy that felt human, culturally affirming, and spacious enough to hold all of you—not just your symptoms, but your softness, your brilliance, your pain, your story. I know how heavy it can feel to be the “go-to” person, the achiever, the one who holds it down for everyone else while feeling unseen or disconnected inside. And I also know that healing is possible, especially when we do it in community.
I didn’t just choose this work—I lived it. As a Black woman and a therapist who has navigated the intersections of high expectations, cultural identity, and generational wounds, I bring both lived experience and clinical expertise into the therapy room. Over the years, I’ve worked in a range of community mental health settings, serving individuals impacted by trauma, anxiety, and identity-based stress. These experiences shaped my commitment to offering care that’s affirming, liberatory, and rooted in real-life nuance. Over time, I found myself drawn to creating spaces that weren’t just about surviving—but about reimagining what’s possible when we allow ourselves to rest, be witnessed, and return home to ourselves.
That vision became Orenda Psychotherapy—a practice designed for us, by one of us.
My therapeutic style blends science with soul. I use approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, and insight-oriented therapy, paired with creative tools like music, mindfulness, and narrative work. I’m not here to “fix” you—I’m here to walk with you as you peel back the layers, reconnect with your truth, and remember that you’re already whole.
Outside the therapy room, I offer mentorship for emerging clinicians and lead workshops on trauma-informed care, collective healing, and mental wellness for BIPOC professionals. I believe the work of healing extends beyond individual therapy—it’s also about community care, access, and building systems that honor rest, joy, and liberation.
Orenda is more than a therapy practice. It’s a movement toward radical openness, healing, and self-reclamation.
And if you’re ready to begin (or continue) that journey—I'm here.

Orenda Psychotherapy was created with intention—a response to the unspoken struggles of high-functioning women of color navigating life with brilliance, ambition, and invisible wounds. We are not a generic therapy practice. We are a sanctuary. A movement. A homecoming.
We exist to hold space for the women who have always made it work, even when it hurt. For the ones who show up for everyone else but often feel unseen themselves. We understand the exhaustion of perfectionism, the ache of intergenerational wounds, and the complexity of healing in a world that doesn’t always affirm your existence. Here’s how Orenda is different.
what makes orenda different?
-
We don’t treat your culture, identity, or story as an afterthought. Our work is deeply informed by the lived experiences of BIPOC women—by the power of ancestral resilience, the sting of microaggressions, and the pressure to succeed in systems not built for us. You won’t have to translate your experiences here. We see you in full color.
We bring a liberation-focused lens to therapy that honors your wholeness—beyond diagnosis, beyond productivity, beyond survival.
-
you are more than your trauma.
we hold space for what you’ve survived—and gently guide you back to who you’re becoming. we use evidence-based tools like:emdr for reprocessing and nervous system healing
act (acceptance and commitment therapy) to support alignment with your values
insight-oriented and psychodynamic approaches to explore the roots of your story
we believe in care that’s both grounded and intuitive—healing that feels like coming home to yourself.
-
at orenda, we believe that healing is a whole-body experience. therapy is only one part of the journey. true wellness involves nourishing every aspect of your life: body, mind, and spirit.
we integrate holistic practices into our work to support your complete well-being. this means exploring nourishing rest, connecting to your creative flow, cultivating physical wellness, and nurturing your inner resilience. we offer resources and tools to help you create a balanced, fulfilling life—one where healing is embodied and sustained.
-
we believe that therapy should feel genuine and relatable. that’s why we bring our whole, boundaried, and professional selves into this work—showing up with warmth, humor, and humanity. healing happens through connection, and we create an environment where you feel deeply seen, heard, and understood. we honor your lived experiences, your resilience, and your unique journey, meeting you with compassion every step of the way.
-
healing is not just about recovery—it’s about freedom. at orenda, we believe that mental wellness is an act of self-liberation, allowing women of color to break free from limiting narratives, societal expectations, and internalized perfectionism. our work is about empowerment—helping you step into your full potential, embrace your worth, and live life on your own terms with confidence, clarity, and joy.
About Orenda’s World
orenda psychotherapy was created with a simple but powerful mission: to provide a space where high-achieving women of color can heal, grow, and reclaim their lives on their own terms.
we know that just because you’re “functioning” doesn’t mean you’re thriving. many of our clients are used to being the strong one, the responsible one, the one who holds everything together—but that doesn’t mean they don’t need support too.
at orenda psychotherapy, we take a holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally affirming approach to therapy, helping you process deep-seated wounds, challenge limiting beliefs, and release the patterns that no longer serve you. we help you shift from survival mode to true emotional freedom, where you can embrace self-trust, joy, and authenticity in every aspect of your life.
our goal is to create a radically open space—one where you don’t have to explain yourself, shrink yourself, or filter your truth. here, you are deeply seen, supported, and empowered to step into the life you deserve.
"orenda" is a concept that speaks to the power within each of us to create change in our own lives and in the world around us. it represents the deep inner strength, resilience, and potential that we carry—often without realizing it.
